The Ragdoll cat is known for its striking features. One of the most distinctive is its large size, while the other is its soft and silky coat. But there is one distinguishing feature that sets it apart from any other cat breed, and that is its stunning blue eyes!
Do all Ragdoll Cats have blue eyes?
The short answer is yes. All traditional Ragdoll Cats have distinctive deep blue eyes. The International Cat Association (TICA) states that to be classed as a purebred ragdoll, a Ragdoll cat must have blue eyes. You can view the breed standard document here.
Ragdoll Cats have large oval eyes that look almost round in shape. Traditional Ragdoll Cats have blue eyes of varying intensity, ranging from pale blue to dark navy. A Ragdoll kitten’s eye color typically matures by three months of age. Vivid blue is the eye color preferred by breeders and judges in the show ring.
Can Ragdoll Cats have green eyes?
Can a Ragdoll Cat have an eye color other than blue? You may have heard of Mink, Sepia and Solid color Ragdoll Cats. Mink, Sepia and Solid Ragdolls are seen as controversial in the Ragdoll breeding community as they do not have blue eyes. As mentioned earlier, the breed standards set out by The International Cat Association (TICA) states that any eye color other than blue is not permitted.Â
Mink and Sepia Ragdolls are not a new breed or color of Ragdoll cat. Instead, they are a bloodline traced back to the first Ragdoll Cats bred by Ann Baker. The word Mink does not refer to the color of the Ragdoll but instead the texture of its fur, which can be compared to that of a mink fur stole.
The eye color of these variants are as follows:
- Mink Ragdoll – Aqua, with the color ranging from blue-green to green-blue.
- Sepia Ragdoll – green, blue, Aqua or gold.
- Solid Ragdoll – green, blue, Aqua, gold, yellow and even two different eye colors.
Over recent years Mink, Sepia, and Solid Color Ragdoll Cats have been accepted as purebred Ragdolls by some cat associations but not others
