How to find your cat using the AirTag?
First, attach the Airtag to your cat’s collar. You can either buy a holder for the airTag that slides onto the collar or purchase a collar that has a built in holder included. Make sure it’s secure and snug, but not too tight – you don’t want your cat to be uncomfortable.
Next, open the Find My app on your iPhone and select the “Tags” tab. Here, you’ll be able to see the location of your cat in real-time!
You can also set up notifications so that the app will alert you if your cat goes outside of your home range, like your backyard.
If you are searching for your cat you can choose Play Sound if the airTag is nearby. If it’s not close by, you’ll see ‘Not Nearby’ under the sound option and you’ll need to keep moving until it is within range. If you cannot find your cat you can place the Airtag into lost mode. This means you can add a custom message and contact number to the AirTag. The Drawbacks of using an Apple AirTag to track your cat
While the AirTag may be a helpful tool in tracking a cat, there are also potential drawbacks to using this product. For one, while AirTags are often advertised as being just as accurate as GPS tracking devices, there are a few key differences that make them less accurate than GPS trackers. AirTags rely on the Find My network to function, which means they only work when there is an iPhone or iPad nearby. This limits their range and makes them less accurate than GPS trackers, which can work anywhere there is a satellite signal.
Second, AirTags only update their location every few minutes, while most GPS trackers update their location every few seconds. This means that if your animal is moving around a lot, it will be harder to keep track of them with an AirTag.
There is also a possibility that the AirTag could fall off.
We put the Apple AirTag to the test to see if it could help us keep track of our Ragdoll cat, Ocean. We found that while the AirTag was helpful in some ways, it wasn’t perfect.
For example, we were able to attach the AirTag to Ocean’s collar and use the Find My app to see his general location. This was helpful when he was outside and we needed to where we should start looking for him. However, the app wasn’t always accurate, and sometimes showed him as being in a different part of the house than he actually was.
